Rangers Agree To Deals With Andrus, Others
The Rangers have agreed to terms with shortstop Elvis Andrus and five others on contracts for the 2011 season.
Andrus, an All-Star last season after being runner-up for AL rookie of the year in 2009, got a $452,180 contract for this season.
The Rangers also reached deals Saturday with utility infielder Andres Blanco, outfielder Craig Gentry and right-handers Omar Beltre, Eric Hurley and Alexi Ogando.
Durbin, Indians Agree To Deal
The Indians have agreed to a one-year contract with pitcher Chad Durbin, according to a baseball source.
Durbin receives a guaranteed base salary of $800,000 and can make an additional $1 million in reachable incentives.
He had generated interest from some clubs as a starter, but is expected to pitch out of the bullpen for the Indians.
Durbin was a valuable contributor for Philadelphia in recent seasons.
Royals Give Aviles, Escobar One-Year Deals
The Royals have agreed to one-year deals with third baseman Mike Aviles and shortstop Alcides Escobar.
Aviles hit .304 last season, while Escobar, who was acquired in December from Milwaukee in the Zack Greinke trade, hit .235 last season as a rookie with the Brewers.
Tomko, Rangers Agree To Minors Deal
The Rangers have agreed to a minor-league deal with right-hander Brett Tomko.
Tomko is trying to come back from a nerve problem in his right arm that ended his 2009 season.
His last major league game was a five-hit shutout victory for Oakland at Texas on Sept. 14, 2009.
Rockes Give Belisle New Deal Through 2012
The Rockies have signed reliever Matt Belisle to a deal through 2012 that buys out his first year of free agency.
The right-hander is the sixth non-free agent that Colorado has signed to a multiyear contract this offseason, joining Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Matt Lindstrom, Rafael Betancourt and Jason Hammel.
Pence To Make $6.9M In 2011
Hunter Pence defeated the Astros in the final salary arbitration case of the offseason, giving players victories in two of three hearings this year.
Pence will make $6.9 million rather than the team's offer of $5.15 million.
He hit .282 with 25 homers, 91 RBIs and 18 steals last year, when he made $3.5 million.
Twins, Delmon Young Agree To Deal
The Twins have avoided arbitration with Delmon Young by agreeing to a one-year, $5.4 million contract.
Young batted .298 with 46 doubles, 21 homers and 112 RBIs in 153 games last season.
He led the club in hits, doubles and RBIs and was second in games played and home runs.
D-Backs, Johnson Avoid Arbitration
The Diamondbacks and infielder Kelly Johnson have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.85 million deal.
Johnson hit .284 last season with 26 homers, 71 RBIs and 36 doubles, while making $2.35 million.
Cubs, Marmol Agree To Three-Year Deal
The Cubs and closer Carlos Marmol avoided an arbitration hearing deadline by agreeing to a three-year contract on Monday, according to a major league source.
The deal is believed to be in the $20 million range.
Marmol made $2.25 million in 2010, his first year of arbitration.
Phillies Sign Sullivan To Minor-League Contract
The Phillies have signed outfielder Cory Sullivan to a minor league contract, according to the team's website.
Sullivan will participate in minor league camp. He hit .188 in 64 at-bats with the Astros last season, and has played 260 games in center field in his career.
